Toni Murphy
Toni Murphy is a bluegrass bassist and singer who co-founded Batteries Not Included with her husband, banjo player Graham Murphy. She was earlier a founding member of RedEye, an Austin, Texas, bluegrass band that recorded one album and played festivals across central and eastern Texas, and in 1993 she served as publicity coordinator for the Central Texas Bluegrass Association. She and Graham formed Batteries Not Included in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1996. They moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and performed as a duo there from 1998, then as a trio with guitarist Phil Campbell. Fiddler Anita Grunwald later joined, and the band settled on a lineup with guitarist Todd Kimball and mandolinist Phil Cornish. She served three terms as board secretary of the Northern California Bluegrass Society and later joined the board of the Redwood Bluegrass Associates.
