Station Inn House Band
Bands / Ensembles
The Station Inn House Band (sometimes called the Original Station Inn Band) was the house band of the Station Inn, a Nashville bluegrass club. Its members were the club's owners, who opened the Station Inn in 1974: Bob Fowler, Ingrid Herman, Marty Lanham, Charmaine Lanham, Jim Bornstein, Red Smith and Bird Lee "Birdie" Smith. The club was first located near Centennial Park and Vanderbilt University, where it drew local college students, and it worked more like a clubhouse than a concert venue with the owners performing regularly and other musicians coming by to jam including stars such as Bill Monroe. The club moved to 402 12th Avenue South in 1978. With essentially the same band playing six nights a week, attendance fell, and in March 1981 the owners sold the club to bassist J.T. Gray, who transitioned the club to a more traditional venue and began booking touring bands.
