Southern Rail
Bands / Ensembles
Southern Rail (1978–present) is a bluegrass band from the Boston area, based in Waltham, Massachusetts, led by guitarist, lead singer and songwriter Jim Muller and bassist and harmony singer Sharon Horovitch. The two met as graduate students at MIT and married in 1977. Muller, from Richmond, Virginia, introduced Horovitch, from Montreal, to bluegrass, and they started the band running it semi-professionally alongside careers in science. A changing cast of third and fourth members have included Muller's brother Paul on banjo, Bob Sachs on mandolin and bass, banjo player Richard Stillman, and mandolinist John Tibert.
