Schankman Twins

Bands / Ensembles

The Schankman Twins were a bluegrass band from Los Angeles, California, led by twin sisters Dana Schankman (banjo) and Lauren Schankman (fiddle). Their name is often mis(?)spelled as “Shankman.” Dana started on banjo at age 10 after finding the instrument her father had played in college. The twins recorded their debut album, Duality, at 16, and it was released in 1996. Their younger brother, Michael Alden, later joined on bass and vocals. The sisters dissolved the group in 2004 and formed Malibu Storm, a country-pop trio with a bluegrass sound that included Alden on bass.
