Porter Church

Porter Church (April 17, 1934–August 18, 1995) was an American bluegrass banjoist and guitarist. Born in Bristol, Tennessee, and raised in Virginia, he relocated to the Washington, D.C. area in 1953. In 1956, he co-founded the Blue Grass Champs alongside Scotty, Donna, and Jimmy Stoneman, winning the Arthur Godfrey Talent Scouts television showcase. Throughout the 1960s he worked as a Blue Grass Boy under Bill Monroe and with Patsy Stoneman's early touring line-up. He played on Red Allen and the Kentuckians' acclaimed County Records releases, Bluegrass Country (1965) and Red Allen and the Kentuckians (1966), as well as his late-career work on David Grisman's Grammy-nominated traditional anthology Home Is Where The Heart Is (1987).
