Polly Lewis

Polly Lewis Williamson Copsey (died August 19, 2018) was a singer with the Lewis Family, the bluegrass gospel group from Lincoln County, Georgia, that was billed as "America's First Family of Bluegrass Gospel Music." She was a daughter of James Roy "Pop" Lewis and Pauline Holloway Lewis, and she sang with her parents, her sisters Miggie and Janis, and her brothers Wallace, Talmadge, and "Little Roy." The Lewis Family made its first recording in 1951. From 1954 to 1992 the group hosted a weekly television program on WJBF-TV in Augusta, and it began recording for Starday in 1957. It toured the United States and Canada, appeared in the Gaither Homecoming video series, and performed at the Smithsonian Institution and Lincoln Center. The group entered the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 1992 and IBMA's Hall of Honor in 2006. She was still singing with the family when it retired in 2009, after a career of 58 years with the group. She was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame. She died in 2018 at age 81.
