Patent Pending was a traditional bluegrass band from West Virginia, led by mandolinist, lead singer and songwriter Eldred Hill. Members included Hill, guitarist Rusty Williams, banjo player Jim Steptoe and bassist Leigh Taylor, who appear together on the band's recordings from its 1979 debut EP onward. Fiddlers rotated through the band, among them David McLaughlin, Mike Hartnett, Brad Oviatt and Jim Unger. The 1998 Copper Creek gospel CD, A Child of God included guitarist Ed Barney, bassist Teri Chism and fiddler and mandolinist Wayne Lanham. The band continued recording into the 2000s, releasing two albums on Tuscarora in 2007 and 2010.
