Mother Maybelle Carter
Maybelle Carter (1909–1978) was an American guitarist, autoharp player, and singer from Virginia, a member of the original Carter Family, whose thumb-lead guitar style (the "Carter scratch") became a foundation of country and bluegrass guitar. She later led the Carter Sisters with her daughters, including June Carter. The Carter Family was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1970 and IBMA's Hall of Honor in 2001.
