McCormick Brothers

Bands / Ensembles

The McCormick Brothers were a bluegrass band from Westmoreland, Tennessee, made up of brothers Lloyd McCormick (guitar), Kelly McCormick (mandolin, tenor vocals) and Haskel McCormick (banjo). Lloyd and Kelly began as a guitar-and-mandolin duo singing on Kentucky and Tennessee radio, and Haskel joined in the early 1950s. Cousins Hayden Clark (bass) and Billy Clark (fiddle) played in an early lineup. Brother William McCormick joined on bass in 1955, and later members included fiddler Dewel Bullington and Dobro player Charlie Nixon. The brothers were among the first artists signed to Hickory Records, the label run by Fred Rose and Roy Acuff, and recorded about 30 sides for it from 1954 to 1962. For about 12 years the band had a weekly live radio show on WHIN in Gallatin, Tennessee, and held square dances nearby. Kelly McCormick died in 2005 and William in 2013.
