Lynn Morris Band
Bands / Ensembles
The Lynn Morris Band (1988–2003) was a bluegrass band from Winchester, Virginia, led by singer, banjo player and guitarist Lynn Morris. Morris, a Texas native, was the first person to win the National Banjo Championship in Winfield, Kansas, twice. She formed the band in 1988 with three former members of the Johnson Mountain Boys: bassist Marshall Wilborn, mandolinist David McLaughlin and banjo player Tom Adams. Morris married Wilborn in 1989. She switched between guitar and banjo depending on the lineup, while Wilborn played bass throughout. Later members included Ron Stewart, Jesse Brock, Rob Ickes, Audie Blaylock, Stuart Duncan, Chris Jones and Matt Mundy. The band's recording of "Mama's Hand" won Song of the Year at the 1996 IBMA Awards. Morris was named IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year in 1996, 1998 and 1999. The band broke up after Morris had a stroke in March 2003.
