Longview

Bands / Ensembles

Longview was a bluegrass supergroup formed in 1995 to record an album for Rounder Records' 25th anniversary, made up of members of other working bands. James King, guitarist and singer Dudley Connell, mandolinist and tenor singer Don Rigsby, fiddler Glen Duncan and banjo player Joe Mullins recorded the album at the urging of Rounder co-owner Ken Irwin with bassist Marshall Wilborn of the Lynn Morris Band at the Long View Recording studio in North Brookfield, Massachusetts. The band took their name from the studio. The self-titled debut was named IBMA Recorded Event of the Year in 1998. The band recorded three more albums, and because all its members had their own bands, it performed only occasionally. King, Rigsby and Wilborn were the remaining original members by 2008, when guitarist Lou Reid, fiddler Ron Stewart and banjo player J.D. Crowe joined for Deep in the Mountains, the band's fourth album.
