Knoxville Grass

Bands / Ensembles

The Knoxville Grass, formed in 1976, was a bluegrass band from Knoxville, Tennessee. The early members were Jimmy Millsapps (banjo), Glenn Laney (guitar and banjo), Paul Brewster (guitar), Darryl Wolfe (mandolin) and Mike Davis (bass). The band played regularly at Buddy's Bar-B-Q in Knoxville. Later members included Mark Newton (mandolin), Gary Ferguson (banjo and guitar), Byron Doss (fiddle) and Karl Tomasso (bass). Newton left to form the Virginia Squires. Brewster went on to play with the Pinnacle Boys, the Osborne Brothers and Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. Laney formed a new group, the Knoxville Bluegrass Band, in 1997.
