KC Groves
Katherine "KC" Groves (born March 14, 1971) is a mandolinist, guitarist, bassist, and songwriter born in Dearborn, Michigan. She co-founded the old-time string band Uncle Earl with Jo Serrapere in 2000, continuing as the group's central bandleader for over a decade across changing lineups that included Abigail Washburn, Rayna Gellert, and Kristin Andreassen. Groves relocated to Lyons, Colorado, causing the original Michigan configuration to disband, but she maintained the group's national touring presence, resulting in the Rounder Records album Waterloo, Tennessee (2007), produced by John Paul Jones. Her tracking history includes her debut solo album Can You Hear It (1999), produced by Charles Sawtelle, and her second solo project Something Familiar (2004). She is a member of the Colorado Bluegrass Music Society's Hall of Honor.
