Ingrid Reese
Ingrid Reese (born Ingrid Myrtle Herman; September 3, 1941 – February 21, 1998) was a fiddler and guitarist, and the only child of the bandleader Woody Herman and his wife, Charlotte Neste Herman. She was part of the bluegrass scenes in Los Angeles in the 1960s, San Francisco in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and Nashville from the 1970s into the early 1980s. She married guitarist Bob Fowler, and in 1969 the two formed the Bay Area band Styx River Ferry and started bluegrass nights at Paul's Saloon in San Francisco's Marina District. After they moved to Nashville, the Fowlers were part of the group that opened the Station Inn in 1974, along with Marty and Charmaine Lanham, Birdie and Red Smith, and Wilma and Jim Bornstein. In Nashville she played fiddle and guitar with High and Lonesome, with Blue Haze alongside Alan O'Bryant and Blaine Sprouse, with the Shinbone Alley All Stars alongside Ed Dye, and with Hubert Davis and the Season Travelers. She also toured with the Campbell Trio and the Whites. She was a founding member of the all-woman bluegrass band the Bushwhackers, with Ginger Boatwright, Susie Monick, and April Barrows, which released its debut album in 1980. She later married a man named Littlefield, and they had two children. She then married a man named Reese and moved back to Los Angeles. She died in 1998 at age 56. Her memorial services drew more than 600 people in Los Angeles and a large gathering of musicians at the Station Inn.
