Hubert Davis

Hubert Davis (c. 1932 – May 4, 1992) was an American banjo player from North Carolina who learned in part from Earl Scruggs, a visitor to his family's home, and began playing professionally at 15. With Jim Eanes's Shenandoah Valley Boys he recorded "Plunkin' Rag" in 1953, the first recording by a banjo player other than Scruggs to use Scruggs tuning pegs. He also recorded with Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys in December 1954, on "Wheel Hoss," "Cheyenne," and "Roanoke." He then led Hubert Davis and the Season Travelers with his wife Rubye and daughter Shelby Jean, playing WSM's Martha White Show, and for many years ran the Bluegrass Inn in Nashville.
