Fred Maddox
Fred Maddox (July 3, 1919 – October 29, 1992) was an American bassist and showman with the Maddox Brothers and Rose, the family band that rose from migrant farm labor in California to national popularity in the 1940s and '50s. Born in Alabama, he moved west with his family during the Depression, and in 1937 he talked a Modesto radio sponsor into hiring the family, insisting that his kid sister Rose be the singer.
