Eddie Adcock

Eddie Adcock (June 21, 1938–March 19, 2025) was an American banjoist, guitarist, and vocalist. Born in Scottsville, Virginia, he began his professional career in 1953 with Smokey Graves & His Blue Star Boys before working as a sideman for Mac Wiseman, Bill Harrell, and Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys. In late 1958, he joined The Country Gentlemen. After leaving the group in 1970, he pioneered progressive bluegrass and "newgrass" sounds by forming the IInd Generation alongside his wife and lifelong musical partner, Martha Adcock. He later recorded and toured with the acoustic bluegrass supergroup The Masters. He was inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 1996 as a member of The Country Gentlemen and received the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass Music in 2014.
