Doug Dillard
Doug Dillard (March 6, 1937–May 16, 2012) was an American bluegrass banjo player, singer, actor, and country-rock pioneer. Born in Salem, Missouri, he co-founded The Dillards with his brother Rodney in 1962. The band relocated to Los Angeles, where they achieved national recognition by portraying the fictional mountain family "The Darlings" on The Andy Griffith Show from 1963 to 1966. Leaving the band in 1968, he teamed up with former Byrd, Gene Clark, forming the country-rock duo Dillard & Clark. Throughout his career he recorded on sessions for mainstream music icons, including The Byrds, Linda Ronstadt, and Monkees member Michael Nesmith. He later started the Doug Dillard Band and was posthumously inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame as a member of The Dillards in 2009.
