Doc Watson

Arthel Lane "Doc" Watson (1923–2012) was an American guitarist, banjo player, and singer from Deep Gap, North Carolina, who was blind from infancy. His fast, clean flatpicking of fiddle tunes on the guitar transformed the instrument's role in bluegrass and folk. Discovered during the 1960s folk revival, he recorded and toured for decades, much of that time with his son Merle. He won seven Grammy Awards plus a Lifetime Achievement Award, and received the National Medal of Arts in 1997.
