Dixie Belle
Iola Mae "Dixie Belle" Moore was an American mid-century country and old-time string band musician and vocalist who toured extensively across the tent-show and regional radio circuits of the 1940s. Performing under her stage name "Dixie Belle," she was a featured artist and singer for Goober and his Kentuckians, an influential traveling hillbilly music and comedy troupe launched by her husband, pioneering country comedian, musician, and stage manager James "Goober" Buchanan. Alongside bandmates like Cotton Carier and Dink Embry, her traditional vocal style and rhythm accompaniment anchored the ensemble's daily broadcasts on major regional radio hubs including WHOP in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and WSIX in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1942, she performed as part of the Jamup & Honey tent show where she sang duets with Billie (Sally Ann) Forrester as the Kentucky Sweethearts, backed by Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys.
