Connie Morris
Connie Morris is a bluegrass banjo player, guitarist and singer and a co-founder of the Georgia band Georgia Bound. She was born in Atlanta and grew up in Cobb County. Her father, Murray Freeman, sang and played guitar and formed the bluegrass band the Ridgerunners in 1964. She played piano and alto saxophone and sang in school and church choirs. At about 14 she took up guitar and began sitting in with her father's band on guitar, bass and harmony vocals. She then switched to banjo and became a full-time member of the Ridgerunners around 1970. The band played festivals across the Southeast through the 1970s, and Brown's Guide to Georgia named it one of the state's top three bluegrass bands in 1978. She played banjo with the Bluegrass Generation in the late 70s / early 80s. She also co-founded the all-woman band Cherokee Rose with Frances Mundy-Mooney in 1979 and left the band early on. She co-founded Georgia Bound in 1984 after returning to Georgia from several years in New York City. She still performs with the band, which is based in Douglasville and includes her husband, Jeff Partridge. She was named Female Vocalist of the Year by the Atlanta Society of Entertainers in 2003 and was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014.
