Columbia Records

Labels / Record Companies

Columbia Records, one of the oldest and largest American labels and now part of Sony Music, made the recordings that defined bluegrass. Between 1945 and 1949, Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys recorded for Columbia in Chicago and Nashville. Those sessions included the classic lineup with Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs, and Chubby Wise, and produced "Blue Moon of Kentucky," "Kentucky Waltz," and "Blue Grass Special."
