BGRASS-L
Publishers / Periodicals
BGRASS-L is an email discussion list for bluegrass music and is generally credited as the start of the online bluegrass community. Frank Godbey, a University of Kentucky programmer, collected the first sign-ups on a sheet of paper at the 1991 IBMA World of Bluegrass in Owensboro, and the university agreed to host the list on its LISTSERV system. Membership grew past 200 by late 1992 and nearly 500 by late 1993, then peaked at more than 2,100 subscribers around 2003–2004. Over the years it hosted wide-ranging debates among fans, musicians, DJs, and industry people.
