Backstage, The

Venues

The Backstage was a basement music club beneath Market Street in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood. Lowen Clausen started the club in the mid-1980s before selling it to Ed Beeson who ran the club for the next dozen years earning a reputation as perhaps the most eclectic venue in greater Seattle. The Backstage booked folk, country, blues, jazz, reggae, world music, and rock side by side, pairing national touring acts with local roots bands. The Backstage closed on July 15, 1997.
